Dumping Data Definitions and Data

After you create a Progress/400 environment on the AS/400, you can move your Progress data definitions to it. The first step is to dump the data and data definitions from your Progress database.

Follow these steps on your client machine:

  1. Start Progress, connect to your database, and access the Data Administration tool.
  2. From the Data Administration main menu, choose Admin Dump Data and Definitions Data Definitions (.df file) to dump the data definitions from your database or from specific tables in your database.
  3. If you are also moving data to the AS/400, choose Admin Dump Data and Definitions Table Contents (.d file) to dump the data from your database or from specific tables in your database.

Next, you must create a client schema holder so that you can access your data definitions on the AS/400 with Progress client applications through the DataServer.
