About the Startup Parameters and Usage Categories

You can change the default startup parameters by using startup parameters on a command line or by incorporating them into a .BAT file or a UNIX script file. You can also use a Progress parameter file, which can include any number of startup parameters. See "Introduction" for information on the parameter file.

In this chapter, the startup parameters are organized into usage categories. Some parameters might be listed in more than one category. The syntax of the parameters is the same for UNIX and Windows unless noted otherwise. Table 3–1 defines the startup parameter usage categories.

Client Session (CS)
Use when starting any client session.
Client Connection (CC)
Use when connecting to a specific database.
Progress Database Server (DBS)
Use when starting a server or broker.
DataServer (DS)
Use when starting non-Progress DataServers.
Open Interface Driver (OID)
Use when starting the Open Interface Driver.
