Getting Started
with WebSpeed
The WebSpeed Workshop Environment
The WebSpeed Workshop environment includes these components:
- AppBuilder—Depending on whether you purchased the WebSpeed product or the combined Progress and WebSpeed product, you might be using the AppBuilder for developing WebSpeed applications, Windows applications, or for both types of applications.
The focus in this book is on using the AppBuilder as a WebSpeed development tool. For an introduction to the AppBuilder, see the Progress Application Development Environment — Getting Started guide.
- WebTools—You can use the browser-based WebTools to access the status of CGI variables, the state of objects, and a variety of database information. In addition, you can use the WebTools for creating, modifying, and managing files, for compiling and testing WebSpeed code, and for executing OS commands.
- WebSpeed Development Server—The WebSpeed Development Server is a development version of the WebSpeed Transaction Server. The WebSpeed Development Server allows you to run and test the applications you build with the AppBuilder. You also have access to the Procedure Editor for writing SpeedScript procedures; the Debugger, the Data Dictionary, and the Data Administration Tool for managing your development database; and PRO*Tools for managing your client development environment.
NOTE: The Color Changer, Screen Scaling Utility, and ProtoGen PRO*Tools do not apply to WebSpeed.
