SNA Communications Protocol

Connection to the AS/400 through SNA requires SNA routing software on the client machines. You can use the following SNA routers:

Figure 4–3 illustrates how the client and server components interact in an SNA configuration.

These notes help to explain Figure 4–3:

  1. The Progress client issues a CONNECT statement to the server. The CONNECT statement does not include information about the network protocol, host machine, or user. The SNA routing software provides this connection information.
  2. The client connection occurs through the SNA routing software.
  3. The client evokes the DataServer job with the authority of the client.

You must be able to establish a 5250 emulation session between the PC client and the AS/400 before connecting Progress. If you cannot establish the emulation, Progress will not connect.
