Making a Working Copy Of the Sports2000 Database

You should always make a working copy the Sports2000 database rather than using the master copy that you installed with your program files. You can experiment freely with your working copy and, if necessary, restore it to its original state from the master copy.

Follow these steps to create a working copy of the Sports2000 database:

  1. From the AppBuilder main menu, choose Tools Data Dictionary.
  2. The Dictionary Startup dialog box, appears.

  3. Choose the Create a New Database radio button, then choose OK.
  4. The Create Database dialog box appears.

  5. In the New Physical Database Name field, type Sports2000.
  6. Select the radio button labeled: A Copy of Some Other Database.
  7. Choose Files and select sports2000.db in the folder where Progress is installed.
  8. By default, sports2000.db is installed in C:\Program Files\Progress\. The completed Create Database dialog should look similar to below.

  9. Choose OK.
  10. The Data Dictionary creates a copy of the Sports2000 database in your working directory (by default, C:\Progress\Wrk). The Connect Database dialog box appears, as shown below. It contains the name of the database you just created.

  11. Choose Cancel.
  12. You do not want to connect to the database at this time through the Data Dictionary. WebSpeed application development requires that both the AppBuilder and a WebSpeed Agent are connected to the database. Multiple connections are only possible if you start a server for the database. If you open a connection through the Data Dictionary now, the database is opened in single-user mode and it would be impossible to start a server for it.

  13. From the Data Dictionary main menu, choose Database Exit.
  14. The AppBuilder main window becomes the active window again.
