Changes In Version 9.1D
This section lists new and enhanced features in Version 9.1D. For more detailed information about a feature, you are referred to the appropriate appendix in this bulletin or other Progress documentation.
- Administration — Version 9.1D includes the following enhancements and changes to administration:
- The Progress Explorer Tool now provides a check box option that allows you to choose a controlling NameServer to work with the Progress AppServer, the Progress SonicMQ® Adapter, the Progress WebSpeed® Transaction Server™, or the Progress DataServers.
- Enhanced AdminServer security through user authentication and user authorization; and enhanced AdminServer logging, which allows you to see more descriptive information when a login to the Progress Explorer or a connection to the AdminServer fails.
- Additionally, the SonicMQ Adapter General properties now include a check box that allows you to start an Adapter instance automatically when the AdminServer starts. There is also a new Pool Range property in the SonicMQ Adapter Server properties that you use to specify settings for the number of threads within a SonicMQ Adapter broker process.
- If you are running Fathom for Management Standard Edition, you now see Fathom-specific fields in the Progress Explorer Tool.
- The WebSpeed Transaction Server, AppServer, and SonicMQ Adapter broker configuration security has been enhanced and now contains user name and password combinations.

HTML Online Help: Progress Explorer HTML Help.- AdminServer Security— In Progress Version 9.1D, the AdminServer has enhanced security that allows an administrator to optionally require authorization and authentication for the AdminServer with an optional logging capability. The AdminServer can now require group names that list authorized users, as well as user names and passwords that authenticate authorized users of the AdminServer. - Database — Version 9.1D includes the following changes to the database:
- The addition of Schema Mover (
mvsch
), a newPROUTIL

- The ability to perform a selective binary dump and load. For more information, see:
- The addition of the RFUTIL qualifier AIMAGE AIOFF, which disables after-imaging for a database in multi-user mode without shutting down the database. For more information, see:

Progress Explorer now provides a check box that lets you control whether or not to us a NameServer.
Depending on the type of client, Progress provides specific functionality for selecting the no NameServer option when a client connects to a server.

The DataServers in Progress Version 9.1C used the Data Service (
-DataService
) option to indicate that the no NameServer is to be used. Now, in Progress Version 9.1D, an additional connection parameter Direct Connect (-DirectConnect

- The 9.1D installation process for Windows and UNIX platforms has been updated to support an optional AdminServer user-group authorization and authentication feature. This feature allows users to specify group authorization requirements to start the Admin Service. For more information, see:

- The 9.1D installation process for Windows platforms has been updated to support a new Silent Installation Option for the Shared Network Installation Utility (NetSetup.) For more information, see:
Manual: "Installation" in this bulletin.- For Progress WebClient™, the patch procedure and user interface associated with the existing WebClient Installer program has been updated to provide users a clearer, more direct way to install and confirm the installation of a WebClient patch during the WebClient installation process.
