SNA Communications Protocol
Connection to the AS/400 through SNA requires SNA routing software on the client machines. You can use the following SNA routers:
Figure 4–3 illustrates how the client and server components interact in an SNA configuration.

These notes help to explain Figure 4–3:
- The Progress client issues a CONNECT statement to the server. The CONNECT statement does not include information about the network protocol, host machine, or user. The SNA routing software provides this connection information.
- The client connection occurs through the SNA routing software.
- The client evokes the DataServer job with the authority of the client.
You must be able to establish a 5250 emulation session between the PC client and the AS/400 before connecting Progress. If you cannot establish the emulation, Progress will not connect.
