Performing a Typical Or a Complete Installation
With WebSpeed Version 3.1, you can choose the installation method that best suits your company’s unique product and resource requirements. You can choose one of following installation options:
- Typical—Perform a typical installation when you want to install the most commonly used WebSpeed components. A typical installation saves disk space by installing only the most widely used WebSpeed components and subcomponents.
NOTE: If you choose a Custom installation, see the "Performing a Custom Installation" section.- Complete—Perform a complete installation when you want to install all WebSpeed components and subcomponents. For example, choose this option if you intend to install the WebSpeed or ProVision Plus development servers.
Follow these steps to perform either a Typical or Complete installation:
- Complete the steps in the "Beginning the Installation" section.
- In the Setup Type dialog box, choose Typical or Complete, then choose Next to continue with the installation. The Select Program Folder dialog box appears:

- Select the program folder that will contain the WebSpeed files, type a new program folder name, or accept the default, and choose Next to continue. The Web Server Type dialog box appears:

Select the Web Server types for which you want to install Messengers and provide the pathnames for the Web server’s Script and Document Root directories.
- Choose whether you want the WebSpeed static files copied to your Web server’s document root directory or, if you are using the Microsoft IIS, have the setup program create a virtual directory for the static files. The static files physically reside in install-path
\webspeed
. See the "Beginning the Installation" section for more information about static files. To reset the dialog box settings to those chosen in a previous installation, choose Default Settings.
- Choose Next to continue. The Language Choice dialog box appears:

- If you do not want American English as your default language, select the default language that WebSpeed uses for messages and handling data from the drop-down list.
Select other languages for which you want to install error message files. You can configure WebSpeed Agents to display messages in languages other than the default language.
- Choose Next. The International Settings dialog box appears:

The International Settings dialog box allows the installation program to tailor your Progress startup parameter (
startup.pf
) file to specify international conventions, such as Date format, Number format, Character Set, Collation, and Case preferences. For more information on international conventions, see the Progress Internationalization Guide .- From each drop-down list, select the international Character Set, Collation, Case; Date Format; and Number Format to tailor your Progress
startup.pf
file.- Choose Next. The Summary dialog box appears, displaying a summary of the installation options you selected:

- Choose Next. The setup program installs the WebSpeed files.
- When the installation finishes, the Setup Done dialog box appears:

The Progress installation updates shared files that are commonly in use by programs on your system. If no shared files were in use during the installation, the Setup Done dialog box provides a toggle box that you use to launch the Progress Explorer and connect to an AdminServer. You can use the Progress Explorer tool to control and configure your WebSpeed environment. (If you do not want to configure Progress now, deactivate the toggle box.)
If shared files were in use during the installation, you do not have the option to start the Progress Explorer and the Commit Shared Files dialog box displays when you choose Finish. You cannot configure WebSpeed until the shared files are updated.
- Select the appropriate radio button on the Commit Shared Files dialog box and choose OK:

After the shared files are updated, the installation automatically starts the AdminServer and the predefined NameServer.
On Windows NT, the AdminServer is configured as an NT service by default. After you launch the Progress Explorer and connect to the AdminServer, you will see a directory tree comprised of your installed tools and databases.
NOTE: Before you can start WebSpeed, the AdminServer must be running. For more information on the AdminServer and Progress Explorer, see Overview Of the WebSpeed Architecture."
You are now ready to verify the installation by configuring and running the WebSpeed Broker and running the test procedure. For information, see Configuring WebSpeed On Windows."
