Starting a WebSpeed Broker With Agents Connected To the Database

This section describes how to use the Progress Explorer to configure and start a WebSpeed Broker with Agents connected to your working copy of the Sports2000 database.

Before you begin, you should:

NOTE: The following procedure assumes that you have started Progress Explorer and have connected to the appropriate host machine. If you have not started and connected Progress Explorer, follow the first five steps in the "Starting a Server For the Database" section.

To start a WebSpeed Broker and WebSpeed Agents, complete the following steps in Progress Explorer:

  1. Select and expand the node labeled WebSpeed in the tree view.
  2. You should see the default broker name, wsbroker1, in the tree view, as shown below.

  3. Select wsbroker1 (from either the right or the left pane of the window) and choose Action Properties.
  4. The Properties dialog box appears with a tree view in the left pane.

  5. Expand the tree view under Agent and select General.
  6. The Properties dialog box looks similar to the one shown below.

  7. Add the pathname of your working copy of the Sports2000 database to the agent startup parameters using the -db option.
  8. In the figure in Step 3, the database is specified as c:\Progress\Wrk\Sports2000.

NOTE: In this example the database is located on the same machine as the WebSpeed Broker. If the server for the database is running on a remote machine, you must specify the host name (using the -H parameter) of the remote machine and the service name (using the -S parameter). For more information about connecting to remote databases, see the WebSpeed Installation and Configuration Guide .

  9. Choose OK.
  10. Select wsbroker1 and choose Action Start.
  11. After the WebSpeed Broker starts, you can monitor its performance by choosing Action Status.
