Using Help Macros
It is possible to control and customize the functionality of help files by using help macros. For example, you can customize the features of help windows by adding buttons to the button bar or menu items to the menus. This section discusses help macros and illustrates some ways to use them.
You can define macros in several places:
- In the help project file (.hlp), you can define a macro so that it runs when the help file is opened, when a particular window type is launched, when the user chooses a keyword from the Index tab of the Help Topics dialog box, or when the user chooses a menu item or button. In the help project file, you define help macros in the [CONFIG] and [MACROS] sections.
- In the contents file (.cnt), you can define a macro so that it runs when the user double-clicks an associated page icon on the Contents tab of the Help Topics dialog box.
- In the help topic file, you can define a macro in a footnote to run whenever the topic is displayed, or in a hotspot, to run when the user clicks the hotspot. KLink and ALink topic searches are examples of ways to use macros in hotspots.
