Starting the Multi-user Server Or Broker As a Windows NT Service

Before you can run multi-user Progress as a Windows NT service, you must create an entry in the registry to enable Progress to run as a Windows NT service. You can create an entry in the registry with either the Progress Explorer or ProControl. The following sections describe these methods.

Using the Progress Explorer To Start the Multi-user Server Or Broker

Start the Progress Explorer and establish a connection to one or more AdminServers. See "Administration Utilities," for more information about starting Progress Explorer, and see the Progress Explorer online help for detailed instructions on using Progress Explorer to start a multi-user server process.

Using ProControl To Start the Multi-user Server Or Broker

You can create a database entry within ProControl to run multi-user Progress as a Windows NT service. When you create a database entry, ProControl automatically creates an entry in the registry, which enables Progress to run as a Windows NT service. The Progress server process coordinates the database requests from all the users accessing a single database.

See "The ProControl Utility," for detailed instructions on how to create the ProControl database entry.
