Choose Database
Create to create a Progress database. When you choose this option, the Create Database dialog box appears as shown in Figure 8–3.

This dialog box contains the following user-interface elements:
New Physical Database Name
Specifies the actual name for the database on a disk. This name can contain an explicit path or it can be relative to your propath.
Files
Displays a list of available options for its corresponding field. For example, when you choose the Files button next to the New Physical Database Name field, the Find Database File dialog box shown in Figure 8–4 appears.

Start with
Specifies the type of database you want to create:
- An EMPTY Database — Specifies that you want to create an empty database.
- A Copy of the SPORTS Database — Specifies that you want to create a copy of the Progress sports database.
- A Copy of Some Other Database — Specifies that you want to create a copy of an existing database. If you choose this button, you must specify the name of the database you want to copy in the field beneath this option.
Replace If Exists
Indicates that if you specify the name of an existing database, you want to replace the existing database with the one you are creating.
NOTE: When you create a database with the PROSTRCT command, you can specify a database block size that is a multiple of 1024K, from 1024K to 8192K. Specifying a block size that matches the operating system block size might improve performance.Raw Partition Support
You can use the PROSTRCT CREATE command to create a database with raw partitions. Storing portions of a database on raw partitions can help you avoid problems associated with the UNIX file system, such as asynchronous I/O, large file sizes, and security. Creating a database with raw partitions also enables you to avoid using the
sync ( )
system call.
