Performing a Typical Or Complete Installation

You can choose the installation method that best suits your company’s unique product and resource requirements. You can choose one of following installation options:

Follow these steps to perform either a Typical or Complete installation:

  1. Follow the steps in the "Installing Progress On Your System" section.
  2. In the Setup Type dialog box, choose Typical or Complete, then choose Next to continue with the installation. The Select Program Folder dialog box appears:
  3. Accept the default Program Folder, type the name of a new Progress Program Folder, or select an existing folder.
  4. If you have an existing Progress installation, make sure that the Program Folder name you type here is not the same one that contains the installed product.

  5. Choose Next to continue.
  6. If you are performing a Complete installation of ProVision Plus, the Before You Start dialog box appears, identifying information you must provide to complete the installation:

To reset the dialog box settings to those chosen in a previous installation, choose Default Settings. For information about choosing the other WebSpeed options, refer to the “Installing WebSpeed” chapter in the WebSpeed Installation and Configuration Guide .

  7. Choose Next to continue. The Language Choice dialog box appears:
  8. Select the languages you want to use for error and informational messages. Progress can use these languages for run-time messages. The initial value for the default language is determined by the operating system on which you are installing Progress. However, you can set the result to any of the provided languages.
  9. Choose Next. The International Settings dialog box appears:
  10. The International Settings dialog box allows the installation program to tailor your Progress startup parameter (startup.pf) file to specify international conventions. (For more information on international conventions, see the Progress Internationalization Guide .)

  11. From each drop-down list, select the international Character Set, Collation, and Case; Date Format; and Number Format to tailor the default startup.pf file.
  12. Choose Next. If you are installing products that use the AdminServer, the Admin Server Authorization Options dialog box appears:
  13. NOTE: The User Authorization and Group Authorization options are established independently of each other. You can elect to use one option, both options, or none. To bypass this option, select Next.

To require individual users to provide a valid user name and password before accessing the Progress AdminServer:

    1. Click the check box next to the Require a Username and Password option.
    2. During the separate process used to start the AdminServer, the user will be prompted to enter user name and password information. Only users who supply valid user name and password values will be allowed access to the Progress AdminServer.

Specific user name and password information values are established by an administrator at the operating system level. Refer to your operating system documentation for information on how to set up users.

    3. To require the Group Authorization option to secure Progress AdminServer access and operational privileges at a group level, click the check box next to the Enable Group Checking option.
    4. An initial default group value, called PSCAdmin, becomes active in the Group(s) field. You can elect to identify this default group as one of your authorization groups. If you do not want to use this default group, you can delete this default value from the Group(s) field now.

You can define additional user-defined group names. Separate each group name that you enter with a colon as noted on the Admin Server Authorization Options dialog box.

A group name cannot consist solely of periods or spaces.

Any spaces you enter prior to entering the group name will be considered part of your group name’s definition. For example, if you enter a colon and then a space before you type Group1, the Group1 name will only be valid when you include this leading space.

The name can contain a maximum of 256 uppercase or lowercase characters, with the exception of the characters identified in Table 2–6.

For each group you enter in the Group(s) field, including the default group value, a unique Question dialog box displays once you select the Next button. (If the group already exists, this dialog box does not display.) This step actually creates the group.

For example, the Question dialog box shows the displays for the AdminGroup1 entry.

    5. To create a unique group with the group name as it is identified, select Yes. Select No to reconsider creating this specific group at this time.
  14. Select Next. The Summary dialog box appears, displaying a summary of the installation options you selected.
  15. Choose Next. The setup program installs the Progress files.
  16. When the installation finishes, either the Typical Setup Done or Complete Setup Done dialog box appears, corresponding to the type of installation you chose.

  17. Choose Finish.
  18. Reboot your machine if prompted to do so.
