Interpreting Compiler Messages

While compiling the source files, the help compiler always generates progress messages (like “Resolving browse sequences”) and statistical information about the compilation process.

In addition to this information, it might display messages that fall into one or more of the following categories:

See the Help Author’s Guide (hcw.hlp) for detailed information on all notes, warnings and errors. They are indexed by number on the Index tab of the Help Topics dialog box.

Whenever possible, the compiler displays the name of the file that contains the error, as well as the number used to identify the specific line of the project file or the topic that produced the error. Since topics are not actually numbered, the topic number supplied with each error message refers to that topic’s sequential position in the topic file.
