DataServer
for ODBC Guide

Configuring a Local DataServer

In a local configuration, all DataServer components—client and server—run on the same machine. (The server component is embedded in the client executable.) This section describes how to configure a local DataServer.

Window 95 and Windows 98-based local configurations are available only with the Personal DataServer for ODBC. Windows NT-based local configurations are available with either the Personal or Enterprise DataServer for ODBC.

To configure the local DataServer on Windows perform the following steps:

  1. Install ODBC software and any client software required by the data source on the system where your local DataServer resides.
  2. NOTE: If you are configuring the Personal version of DataServer for ODBC with either WebSpeed or AppServer, your local DataServer system is the system where the WebSpeed or AppServer broker resides and executes. You must install DataServer for ODBC and the data source client software at that location. If environment information is required by the data source client, define the environment using the Progress Explorer. See the Progress Explorer online Help for instructions.

  3. Make sure that you registered the data source with the ODBC driver correctly on the appropriate machine.

Once you have set up your environment, you can build the schema holder for your ODBC data source and connect using the client executable. See the "Creating a Schema Holder" section for instructions.
