Writing an Application with Parameter Markers

All applications that support dynamic ESQL statements carry out these basic operations.

  1. Prepare a dynamic ESQL statement.
  2. If the statement is a cursor request, declare a cursor and obtain column attribute information and storage.
  3. Execute the statement, possibly multiple times.

Applications perform these same operations for dynamic ESQL statements with dynamic parameter marker support. There are only a few additional steps required to support dynamic parameter markers.

The following sections provide an overview of the steps you take to write an application with dynamic parameter markers. The techniques are different depending on whether you use Progress/ESQL or write directly to the ESQL-LIB interface.
