Using the ProControl Utility

The ProControl utility is a tool with a graphical user interface and is supplied with the Progress NT Server. The Progress NT Server permits Progress processes to run as registered NT services.

ProControl lets you perform the following tasks on a local or remote NT host:

NOTE: Using ProControl to perform these tasks ensures that Progress processes run as registered NT services. All of these tasks result in changes to the registry.

Follow these steps to access the ProControl Utility and start ProService:

  1. Access the ProControl utility by double-clicking the ProControl icon in the Control Panel, or by double-clicking the ProControl icon in the Progress program group. The ProControl icon looks like this:
  2. Alternatively, you can access ProControl by typing the following command at the command line:

    proctrl 
    

  3. Follow the instructions in the "Starting ProService" section of "The ProControl Utility," to start ProService.
