Using the Progress Explorer To Start a Unified
Broker Instance

To access the Progress Explorer tool, you must open it in the Microsoft Management Console (MMC) on your Windows system. For more information, see Administration Utilities." Once you have opened the Progress Explorer in the MMC, follow these basic steps to start and manage a Unified Broker instance:

  1. Make sure that the AdminServer process is running on each of the following machines:
    • Where the Unified Broker instance you want to start resides
    • Where all required NameServers reside
    • Where any Progress databases or other DataServers reside that your Unified Broker instance needs to access
  2. In the Progress Explorer, connect to the running AdminServer processes that you verified in Step 1. The name or IP address of the machine running each of these processes appears as a folder in the tree view.
  3. Expand each machine folder to see a list of folders showing the name of each NameServer and Unified Broker product installed on the machine.
  4. Expand the NameServer folder under each machine to see a list of configured NameServers.
  5. If they are not already running, start each NameServer that you need (more than one if using connection-level fault tolerance) to support your Unified Broker instance. For more information, see the "Starting and Managing a NameServer Using the Progress Explorer" section.
  6. Start each Progress database or DataServer that your application requires. For more information on starting databases and DataServers, see "Starting and Running Progress," or your product documentation.
  7. Under the machine folder where it resides, expand the Unified Broker product folder for the instance you want to start.
  8. Start the Unified Broker instance. For more information on starting and managing a Unified Broker instance, see your product documentation.

For more information on using the Progress Explorer to start and manage NameServer and Unified Broker products, see the Progress Explorer online help.
