Manually Removing Progress Version 9.1E

This section provides guidelines to follow when manually uninstalling or reinstalling Progress Version 9.1E on Windows.

Follow these steps to successfully uninstall or reinstall Progress Version 9.1E:

  1. Log in under the same domain and user name you used when you installed Progress.
  2. Make sure that Progress is not running in an open DOS window (or that the current directory is not in any Progress-related file or directory).
  3. Stop all Progress processes and close all Progress Help files. You can use the Task Manager to ensure that you stop all processes and close all help files.
  4. Using the Progress Explorer, shut down all Progress services (brokers, NameServers, and databases).
  5. Shut down the AdminServer by following these steps:
    1. From the desktop, select StartSettingsControl PanelServices.
    2. Highlight the AdminService for Progress 9.1E, and choose Stop.
    3. Choose Yes to confirm that you want to stop the service.
    4. When the service stops, choose Startup. The Service dialog box appears.
    5. Change the Startup from Automatic to Manual, and choose OK. (This step is necessary if you reboot your machine before completing the uninstall so that the AdminServer does not start up automatically.)
    6. NOTE: If these same services will be required for a new installation, be sure to note any configuration settings, agent parameters, etc.

  6. You might need to reboot your system. Read the following two cases to decided whether or not to reboot:
    • If you are using the Netscape Web server (wsnsa.dll), you are not required to reboot your system. You only have to shut down the Web server and the WebSpeed Transaction server.
    • If you are using the WebSpeed Messenger (wsisa.dll) with the Microsoft IIS Web server, you must reboot your system. In order to do this on some production machines, you might have to plan the Progress/WebSpeed reinstallation when you can perform a shutdown of the system.
    • NOTE: If you use a WebSpeed IIS Messenger and do not reboot your system before uninstalling, the uninstall fails.

  7. Remove the ProgressUninstall 9.1E file from the Windows directory
    (for example, C:\Winnt40\ProgressUninstall 9.1E).
  8. Run regedit.exe (or regedt32.exe) to edit the Windows registry by deleting the 9.1E keys under the following:
  9. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\PSC\product name(s)
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\PSC\product name(s) 
    

    Then remove the 9.1E key under the following:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\
    Uninstall 
    

  10. If you have installed a Progress product for which the ODBC driver was also installed, run regedit.exe (or regedt32.exe) to edit the Windows registry as follows:
    1. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ODBC\ODBCINST.INI.
    2. Remove the following key (and the values it contains):
      DataDirect 3.60 32-BIT PROGRESS SQL92 v9.1E
  11. If you have installed a Progress product for which the MMC was also installed, run regedit.exe (or regedt32.exe) to edit the Windows registry as follows:
    1. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MMC\SnapIns.
    2. Remove the following key (and the values it contains): {ED06106E-40A4-11d4-81B3-00C04F6B9729}
  12. If you have installed a Progress product for which the Progress Explorer COM Object was also installed, run regedit.exe (or regedt32.exe) to edit the Windows registry as follows:
    1. Go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\.
    2. Remove the following key (and the values it contains): {B970C27F-CA68-11D2-AF3A-00C04FB97F7D}
  13. Depending on the products you have installed, the following files might have been registered during the install and should be unregistered:
  14. dzocx32.ocx 
    
    pstimer.ocx 
    
    dzstat32.ocx 
    
    prox.dll 
    
    duzocx32.ocx 
    
    sstree.ocx 
    
    cscomb32.ocx 
    
    cihttp.ocx 
    
    csspin32.ocx 
    
    cslist32.ocx 
    

    NOTE: The registered version of some of these files might not be under the Progress directory. You should also check the Windows system and system32 directories for these files.

    The following example shows how you can unregister one of these OCX files, which, in the example, is located in the Windows NT system32 directory:

    %DLC%\bin\regsvr32.exe /u c:\winnt40\system32\cscomb32.ocx 
    

    NOTE: If the Progress Uninstall utility does not complete successfully, you must perform all or some of Step 13 through Step 17 before the new installation can take place. For details, see the Progress Software Corporation online Knowledge Base at http://techweb.progress.com/services/support/kb.htm.

  15. Delete the Progress program directory, including all of its subdirectories. The default Progress directory is C:\Program Files\Progress.
  16. Delete the Progress folder/group from the Windows NT Start menu.
  17. Shut down your Web server and delete the cgiip.exe and wsisa.dll files from the Web server cgi-bin/scripts directory:
  18. NOTE: If you are uninstalling WebSpeed and using the Netscape Web server (wsnsa.dll), you must return the obj.conf file to its pre-WebSpeed state. If you are upgrading WebSpeed to the same directory, you need not modify the obj.conf file. However, if you intend to change the directory location, then you must modify the obj.conf file to reflect the correct location.

  19. Depending on the installation options you chose, such as a Web server type, WebSpeed virtual directory, or having static HTML files copied to your Web server document root directory, you might need to take one or more of the following steps:
    1. Delete the WebSpeed directory from your Web server document root directory; for example, on MSIIS the default is: \InetPub\wwroot\webspeed.
    2. Delete any virtual directories defined for WebSpeed in your Web server.
  20. Reboot your machine.
