Modifying Data and Attribute Values

You can modify the value of any specified field, parameter, variable, or widget attribute that is accessible from the current procedure using the corresponding ASSIGN FIELD, ASSIGN PARAMETER, ASSIGN VARIABLE, ASSIGN widget:attribute, or ASSIGN handle:attribute command. The ASSIGN FIELD command accepts (and requires) any buffer qualifier that you need to uniquely specify the field.

A widget can include any legal 4GL reference to a user-interface widget, system handle, or procedure handle. You can qualify user-interface widget references as you do in the 4GL to specify the type of widget and its container, as necessary. An attribute can include any attribute associated with the specified widget and that is also writable at the stopping point of the current procedure.

Note that the value you assign must be a literal value that conforms to the data type of the data item or attribute that you are modifying. Expressions are not allowed.
