Building Distributed

Using the Progress AppServer
Network Deployment Considerations
As you plan your overall deployment strategy, keep in mind that the Progress AppServer supports only:
However, an Application Server process, like any 4GL client session, can communicate with databases and DataServers using TCP/IP or SNA.
If you have to connect the Progress AppServer to a Progress DataServer to access a non-Progress database (and possibly through another network protocol), do the following:
- Use the appropriate Progress DataServer.
- Use the PROBUILD utility to create a customized Application Server process executable if the appropriate DataServer is not already built into the client.
For more information on building an Application Server process executable, see the sections on PROBUILD in the Progress Client Deployment Guide.
