Use Server Join (-nojoinbysqldb) to specify that the client evaluate and performs queries that have joins. This might slow performance, but provides results that are consistent with Progress behavior. It also allows you to run DataServer applications on Version 9 clients with Version 8 servers. It overrides the DataServer default behavior, which is to instruct the non-Progress server to perform the join.

Use -nojoinbysqldb at compile time. It has no effect at run time.
