Utilities>Quoter Functions

Choose this option to format a data file so that Progress can read the data into a Progress database. For more information about the quoter utility, see the Progress Programming Handbook.

Table 11–3 describes the menu that appears when you choose this option. More detailed descriptions of the options follow the table.

Quoter Functions
Entire Lines...
Copies your input file to a new file formatted with quotes around each line.
By Delimiter...
Copies your input file to a new file formatted with quotes around each delimited field.
By Column Ranges...
Copies your input file to a new file formatted with quotes around each column-defined field.
Quoter Include File...
Creates an include file that contains a quoter command.

Quoter Functions Entire Lines

Choose Quoter Functions Entire Lines to copy your input file to a new file formatted with quotes around each line, ready for Progress input. When you choose this option, the Quote Entire Lines dialog box shown in Figure 11–3 appears.

This dialog box contains the following user-interface elements:

Input File

Specifies the filename of the input file to format.

Formatted File

Specifies the filename of the new Progress formatted file.

Files

Displays a dialog box that lets you select a file from a list of existing files.

Quoter Functions By Delimiter

Choose Quoter Functions By Delimiter to copy your input file to a new file formatted with quotes around each delimited field, ready for Progress input. When you choose this option, the Quote By Delimiter dialog box shown in Figure 11–4 appears.

This dialog box contains the following user-interface elements:

Input File

Specifies the filename of the input file to format.

Formatted File

Specifies the filename of the new Progress formatted file.

Delimiting Character

Specifies the character with which to delimit each field.

Files

Displays a dialog box that lets you select a file from a list of existing files.

Quoter Functions By Column Ranges

Choose Quoter Functions By Column Ranges to copy your input file to a new file formatted with quotes around each column-defined field, ready for Progress input. When you choose this option, the Quote By Column Ranges dialog box shown in Figure 11–5 appears.

This dialog box contains the following user-interface elements:

Input File

Specifies the filename of the input file to format.

Formatted File

Specifies the filename of the new Progress formatted file.

Files

Displays a dialog box that lets you select a file from a list of existing files.

Specify the column ranges for each field.
