Starting a Local DataServer
This section describes how to start a local DataServer for ODBC from the startup command.
Starting the Progress client starts the local DataServer. You include information about the ODBC data source, user ID, and password in the startup command. Follow these steps:
- Make sure that your ODBC drivers, as well as any client software required by the non-Progress data source vendor, are installed and configured properly.
- Start the supporting ODBC data source.
NOTE: If you change the values of any environment variables such as ODBC_HOME, you must shut down the DataServer processes and restart them.- Set any environment variables required for your configuration as described in the relevant section of Chapter 3, “Configuring the DataServer” (for example, DSLOGDIR). You must set them in the environment from which you are starting the DataServer.
- Enter the following command:
For example, the following command starts Progress with the local DataServer, connects a local schema holder named odbholder in single-user mode, and connects the ODBC data source demo with the user bob whose password is bobpass:
