Progress
Language Tutorial
for Character
UNIX
To run Progress in character client mode on a UNIX operating system, execute this startup command from the UNIX system prompt:
pro
[dbname]
[parameters].
NOTE: Keep the following points in mind when starting Progress:
- The dbname parameter is the pathname of a database that you want to connect when you start Progress. This parameter is optional for the startup command. However, you must connect to a database before you can access that database from a Progress application. (As you’ll learn later, you can connect a database after you’ve started Progress.)
- You can also specify additional startup parameters with the startup command that tailor the Progress environment to your specific needs. For specifics on startup parameters, see the Progress Startup Command and Parameter Reference.
As necessary, refer to your specific operating system-related documentation.
