Database Server Performance Parameters

Use the parameters listed in Table 3–9 to optimize server performance.

Specify the number of after-image buffers when running AIW.
After-image Stall
-aistall
Suspend database activity when an empty after-image (AI) file is unavailable.
Blocks in Database Buffers
-B n
Specify the number of blocks in the database buffers.
Maximum Private Buffers per Connection
-Bpmax
Control the number of private buffers a connection can request through the Private Read-only Buffers (-Bp) parameter.
Before-image Buffers
-bibufs n
Specify the number of before-image buffers when running BIW.
Threshold Stall
-bistall
Send a message to the log file when the recovery log threshold is reached. Use with -bithold.
Recovery Log Threshold
-bithold n
Specify the maximum size of the recovery log files.
Direct I/O1
-directio
Open all files in unbuffered mode.
Before-image Cluster Age
-G n
Specify the number of seconds before Progress reuses a before-image cluster.
Group Delay
-groupdelay n
Specifies the number of milliseconds a transaction waits before committing.
Hash Table Entries
-hash
Specify the number of hash table entries for the buffer pool.
No Crash Protection
-i
Run Progress without using database integrity or recovery.
Lock Table Entries
-L n
Specify the number of entries in the record locking table.
Delayed BI File Write1
-Mf n
Delay writing the last before-image (BI) file records.
VLM Page Table Entry Optimization2
-Mpte
Allocate shared memory in multiples of 8 MB for VLM64 support.
Shared-memory Overflow Size1
-Mxs n
Replace the default value of the shared-memory overflow area.
Number of Users
-n n
Specify the maximum number of users connected to the database.
Pin Shared Memory
-pinshm
Prevent the database engine from swapping shared memory contents to disk.
Semaphore Sets3
-semsets n
Change the number of semaphore sets available to a broker.
Spin Lock Retries1
-spin n
Specify the number of times a process tries to acquire a latch before pausing.
