New DataServer For Microsoft® SQL Server™
Progress now supports a DataServer for Microsoft SQL Server. The DataServer for SQL Server currently supports the same functionality as the DataServer for ODBC. However, enhancements that apply only to the Microsoft SQL Server database might only be implemented in the DataServer for Microsoft SQL Server in future releases.
For more information, see:
Changes To Progress DataServer For ODBC
DataServer for ODBC changes (also available with the new DataServer for Microsoft SQL Server) include enhanced support for:
- Look ahead cursors as the default method for retrieving rows from a data source when the NO–LOCK condition is set on a FOR EACH statement or other 4GL query
- Indexed repositioning with the REPOSITION 4GL statement that enables the DataServer to no longer have to traverse through an existing cursor in search of the reposition location
