Testing a Help System
The final step in providing help for an application is to test the help system. The following items should be included in your plan for testing your help system:
- Test context-sensitive help calls from the application.
- Test the help menu.
- Verify that the help information is accurate.
- Look for user interfaces, instructions, and concepts that are not documented.
- Test the contents page links.
- Test all jumps and popups
- Test the index.
- Run reports. (Choose File
Report in Help Workshop.)
For more information on testing, see the topic, Features for Testing Help Files, in the Help Author’s Guide (
hcw.hlp
) . This topic also contains links to information on Help Author mode, an additional feature which facilitates analyzing and testing help topics.
