WebSpeed Transaction Server Products

You may see the WebSpeed Transaction Server referred to as the WebSpeed Development Server, the WebSpeed Transaction Server, or the WebSpeed Enterprise Transaction Server. All of these WebSpeed products are comprised of the same components. However, there are differences in the number of WebSpeed Agents each supports. In addition, only the WebSpeed Enterprise Transaction Server supports load balancing. Table 3–2 summarizes the differences.

Since all three WebSpeed products contain essentially the same components, you can use them all to develop and deploy WebSpeed applications. However, you will need more WebSpeed Agents in a deployment environment than in a development environment. The WebSpeed Agent runs Web objects in response to client requests, and there will probably be fewer client requests in a development environment.

The WebSpeed Enterprise Transaction Server supports load balancing, which increases its efficiency in handling client requests. Load balancing is implemented by allowing the NameServer to manage multiple WebSpeed Transaction Servers, which can be distributed on multiple machines in a network environment.
