Overview of Creating Help Topic Files
In a help topic file, each help topic (except the very first one) begins with a hard page break. You enter information essential for hypertext linking, keyword indexing, and browse sequencing by inserting special control codes into help topics. You insert these control codes as footnotes using special characters such as the pound (#) and dollar ($) signs.
The following sections provide more information on completing these steps in creating help topic files:
- Open a file in a text editor.
- Separate each topic with a page break.
- Create a title for each topic.
- Assign control codes to each help topic.
- Write the topic text.
- Assign index keywords, browse sequences, and build tags (all optional).
- Create non-scrolling regions for certain topics (optional).
- Insert graphics throughout the topic file (optional).
- Create hypertext links among help topics (optional).
- Save the topics in one or more RTF files.
