Dynamic DESCRIBE Statement

The dynamic DESCRIBE statement associates a previously defined statement identifier with a previously declared SQLDA_T structure variable name. The preprocessor generates a call to sqldyndesc() for this statement.

Following is the syntax for the dynamic DESCRIBE statement:

SYNTAX
EXEC SQL DESCRIBE statement-id USING SQL DESCRIPTOR structure-name;

statement-id

A statement identifier previously defined in a PREPARE statement. The scope of a statement identifier (used also in the DECLARE CURSOR and EXECUTE statements) extends to the entire ESQL source file. Any reference to this statement identifier in any function within the file refers to the same prepared statement.

psqlda

The name of a pointer to a previously allocated SQLDA_T structure.

For an example of the dynamic ESQL DESCRIBE statement, see Step 5, and for an example of an SQLDA_T structure allocation, see Step 4 in the "Executing Dynamic Cursor Specifications" section in this chapter.
