Understanding the Integrated File System
The Integrated File System (IFS) is an umbrella file system for all of the OS/400 file systems. Users can access any OS/400 file system through the IFS. The Progress/400 environment uses the IFS to manage both p-code file transfer from a remote client and Progress application execution.
The IFS allows the native clients to support either UNIX-style paths (/) or Windows-style paths (\). Progress Software Corporation recommends that you use UNIX-style paths (/) when specifying paths in the IFS. Even though IFS allows either forward or back slashes, Progress does not allow mixing them. Since the client products are installed in a directory on the AS/400 specified with the forward slash, you should use the forward slash to avoid confusion.
For a detailed description of the IFS, see IBM’s Integrated File System Introduction . For information on specific AS/400 versions that support IFS features, see the Progress/400 Release Notes.
