Results Development and Administration

This guide is for the Results programmer and the site administrator. It is important to understand that these two roles are very different and require different skill sets. The roles are:

The structure of this guide and the Results menu system is designed specifically to address these two audiences. The Query Site Admin menu option provides access to the features that support the administrative role. "Administering Results," describes this menu and how to set up and manage users, set up application and database security, and define site defaults.

The Query Customize menu option provides access to the features that support the programming role. "Programming Results," describes this menu and how to customize Results. "Deploying Results Applications," provides information about how to distribute a Results application.

Along with understanding the programming and administrative roles, it is important to understand the relationship between them. The Results programmer must understand the administration requirements of a Results application and then customize Results to support those requirements. While the programmer might decide to deny all users access to the Customize menu in the user environment, the programmer might grant only the site administrator access to all or a portion of the Site Administration menu. For this reason, Results developers should read "Administering Results," before customizing Results. By understanding the general Results administration requirements, the developer will be able to address the need of one of the most important users at the end-user site—the site administrator.
