Updated Documents In Version 9.1D
This section lists the documents in Version 9.1C documentation set that were updated for Version 9.1D:
This book has been updated to reflect changes made for the current release of Progress. Updates include the reordering of chapters and the addition of two new chapters: “Backup and Recovery Strategies,” and “Backing Up a Database.” The “The Progress Database” and “Administrative Planning” chapters have been restructured. New information can be found in the following chapters: “Creating and Deleting Databases,” “After-imaging,” “Dumping and Loading,” “Managing Performance,” “Database Startup Parameters,” “Database Administration Utilities,” and “Progress Monitor R&D Options.”
Two new chapters and a new appendix document the Simple API for XML (SAX).
Two chapters and an appendix on the SonicMQ Adapter were moved from the Version 9.1C Product Update Bulletin and updated to reflect updates for Version 9.1D.
The chapter on sockets reflects updates for Version 9.1D.
The content of this guide has been updated throughout with the latest installation requirements for these Windows platforms: Windows NT, Windows 98, Windows XP, and CITRIX MetaFrame.
The following list highlights the changes to this manual:
- The installation procedures in the chapter on “Installing Progress” includes how to set up the AdminServer user-group authorization and authentication feature.
- The chapter on “Sharing a Progress Installation on a Network” discusses the Silent Install Option users can employ for the Shared Network Installation Utility (NetSetup).
- The chapter on “Installing Progress” has been updated to address changes to Progress messages files (
promsgs
) in the Progress Core Installation process to accommodate future Progress Add On products.- The chapter on “Setting Up Your Environment” includes updated information about using the AdminServer.
- The chapter on “Configuring Progress Unified Broker Products” includes updates to address the use of the Name Server component.
NOTE: The system requirements provided in the manual are current as of the manual’s publication date; however, requirements can change. To make sure that you have the most up-to-date information about system requirements, please be sure to refer to the Progress Release Notes .- The “Progress Version 9 Typical and Complete Installation Components” appendix has been updated with the latest list of components and subcomponents.

Chapter 8 has new material on the character client’s limit of 31 colors when using a double-byte code page, and on the default word-break behavior of characters in double-byte code pages and UTF-8.
