The Progress/400 NameServer

As with the Progress/400 AdminServer and Progress/400 AppServer instance, the Progress/400 NameServer also contains two AS/400 jobs, which follow specific naming conventions. The first job that starts uses the same name as the Progress/400 NameServer, for example NS1. This job controls the Java Virtual machine. The second job that starts, named QJVACMDSRV, is the Java Virtual machine itself. The two Progress/400 NameServer jobs always run in the Progress/400 Administration Server subsystem, specified during the Progress/400 AppServer product installation.

If configured to auto start in the ubroker.properties file, the Progress/400 NameServer starts when the AdminServer starts. You can also configure and start it remotely using the Progress Explorer on NT or using the NSMAN utility on UNIX or NT. See the "Managing the Progress/400 AppServer Product" section in this chapter for more details.

Figure 7–3 diagrams the Progress/400 NameServer with its required jobs.

The Progress/400 NameServer shown in Figure 7–3 always runs in the Progress/400 Administration Server subsystem.
