Developer’s Guide


WebTools

WebTools are a collection of browser-based utilities that allow you to perform development tasks and to access information. Each tool is directly accessible by clicking a link from the WebSpeed WebTools page.

The primary advantage of WebTools is that you do not have to install WebSpeed software locally in order to use them. You can access WebTools by specifying the WorkShop URL in your browser (host_name/scripts/cgiip.exe/WService=wsbroker1/workshop, for example).

However, if you have WebSpeed installed, you can also access WebTools from the Tools menu in AppBuilder. Select Tools WebTools from the AppBuilder main window.

Figure 2–3 shows the WebTools main page.

The WebTools main page consists of two frames:

Table 2–1 gives a brief description of each one of the WebTools. For more detailed information, see the online help, which is accessible from the main frame of each WebTool.

Editor
A basic, single-document text editor.
File Tools
A file listing and file filter utility that allows you to view, run, compile, extract, and delete files on the Development Server.
OS Command
An interface for entering operating system commands.
Scripting Lab
An editor and compiler tool for testing small portions of your application. Also contains small code samples.
Databases
Schema information for all databases connected to the WebSpeed Agent.
Agent Variables
A display of current values of CGI, WebSpeed, Web-Context, and Session variables.
ProPath
A list of the files and directories in your WebSpeed Agent’s PROPATH, plus access to File Tools when you select a file.
Virtual System Table
Shows the performance statistics that are saved in a database’s virtual system tables.
Object State
A listing of all active Web objects showing each object’s type and current Web state.
Messages
Access to information about error messages.
Help
Online help for WebTools and for sample applications.
