Database Objects
Non-Progress databases and Progress databases share the structural elements common to relational databases, but each system has its own elements. These structural elements are called database objects or schema objects. Database objects are components of the database’s logical structure. Each database management system has its own terminology for referring to these objects.
To design for database portability, you must consider each database system’s restrictions on database object names. See the Progress DataServer Guides for a listing of these objects and their equivalent Progress names, a description of the naming conventions and restrictions, and suggestions on resolving naming conflicts.
Progress Software Corporation recommends that you name database objects in a way that respects the restrictions of each database system you want to deploy your application against.
