Changing Data Definitions (CHGPRODCT)

Running the CHGPRODCT utility accesses the physical and logical files that make up the set of your DB2/400 database files. It re-creates the necessary data definitions in the server schema in the Progress/400 environment so that the Progress client can access them through the DataServer. For example, it converts the DDS zoned numeric data type to the Progress DECIMAL data type. The utility can process data definitions that were made by DDS or SQL.

The physical and logical files can reside in multiple libraries, but CHGPRODCT places the schema for these files in a single library, the library that you specified with DUPPRODB.

Follow these steps to run CHGPRODCT:

  1. Type CHGPRODCT at the OS/400 command line, then press F4 to display the utility’s parameters.
  2. Complete the parameters. For a complete description of all of the parameters, see the "Change Progress/400 Dictionary Utility (CHGPRODCT)" section in AS/400 Utilities."
  3. The CHGPRODCT utility translates DB2/400 definitions into Progress definitions on the AS/400 and stores these in files with a P__ prefix. The Progress/400 server schema now contains the data definitions for the DB2/400 database files that you want to access through a DataServer application.

  4. Since the next task requires accessing the AS/400 from the client machine, make sure that you set up the appropriate network connections and start any supporting processes on the AS/400. Table 3–1 briefly lists what you must do for each protocol. See "Remote Access to Progress/400 DataServer," for more details.
  5. Table 3–1: AS/400 Network Processes
    Protocol
    Startup
    SNA
There are no processes that you start manually.
    TCP/IP
Start the TCP/IP broker with the STRPRONET command.

Next, you must set up the client component of the Progress/400 environment.
