PRO*Spy for Version 9
PRO*Spy for Version 9 is a Progress PRO*Tool whose primary function is to serve as a training and debugging aid for use when developing SmartObject applications. Specifically, this tool logs execution flow information for the application and provides it to the developer. This section provides a brief overview of PRO*Spy for Version 9. For complete details on its use, see the online help.
PRO*Spy for Version 9 is accessible from the AppBuilder’s PRO*Tools palette. To open the PRO*Tools palette, choose Tools
PRO*Tools from the AppBuilder main window. Figure 6–4 shows the PRO*Tools palette and identifies the PRO*Spy for Version 9 icon.

Clicking this icon opens the PRO*Spy for Version 9 window, shown in Figure 6–5.

This window contains a menubar, a toolbar, and the PRO*Spy Browse. In the menubar, you select a file to run (this is the application that you want to monitor). Using buttons on the toolbar, you turn the logging of execution flow information on and off while running the application.
- When you enable logging, PRO*Spy for Version 9 opens an operating-system file and logs execution flow information about the selected application to that file.
- When you disable logging, PRO*Spy for Version 9 closes the operating-system file, reads and parses its contents, and writes it to the PRO*Spy Browse.
Other buttons on the toolbar allow you to set marks and to clear and save the PRO*Spy Browse. In the menubar for this window, you select a file to run (this is the file that you want to monitor). Using buttons on the toolbar, you turn the logging of application flow information on and off while running the application.
