Setting Up and Using Word Indexes

This section provides quick-start instructions for the following tasks:

These tasks use a number of server utilities. For details, see AS/400 Utilities."

Once you have built a word index, you use the Progress/400 Data Dictionary to maintain it. For details, see Remote Client DB2/400 Utilities."

Setting Up Word Indexes on an Existing Progress/400 Dictionary Library

Follow these steps to set up a word index on an existing Progress/400 Dictionary Library:

  1. If the default word-break table (named DFTWISWST) is not adequate for your needs:
    1. Create a new word-break table using the UPDPROWBT utility.
    2. After the table has been created, replace the Dictionary’s word-break table using the RPLDCTWBT utility.
  2. Use the Progress/400 Data Dictionary to create one or more word indexes over one or more tables.
  3. NOTE: If you create word indexes over journaled tables, you must start the Progress/400 Word Index Support Processor using the STRWISPRC utility before you can perform any file update operations.

You can now use your word indexes.

Setting Up Word Indexes on a New Progress/400 Dictionary Library

Follow these steps to set up a word index on a new Progress/400 Dictionary Library:

  1. If the default word-break table (named DFTWISWST) is not adequate for your needs, create a new word-break table using the UPDPROWBT utility.
  2. Use the DUPPRODB to create a new Progress/400 Dictionary Library. If you created a new word-break table in Step 1, be sure to specify it on the DUPPRODB command line.
  3. Use the Progress/400 Data Dictionary to either add tables, indexes, and so forth, or load your definition (.df) file.
  4. Loading a definition file that contains word indexes creates an index with a default word size of 30. You can change this size prior to committing by using the Index Property screen in the Progress/400 Data Dictionary. See the "Modifying an Index" section in "Remote Client DB2/400 Utilities," for details.

NOTE: If you create word indexes over tables that will be journaled, you must start the Progress/400 Word Index Support Processor using the STRWISPRC utility before you can perform any file update operations.

You can now use your word indexes.

Handling a Renamed Progress/400 Product Library

If your Progress/400 Product Library is renamed after installation and creation of your word indexes, follow these steps:

  1. Add the renamed Progress/400 Product Library to your library list.
  2. Use the UPDWISTRG command to update the library of the trigger program for each physical file that has word indexes.
Changing the Word-Break Rules for an Existing Progress/400 Dictionary Library

Follow these steps to change the word-break rules for an existing Progress/400 Dictionary Library:

  1. Use the UPDPROWBT utility to create a new word-break table.
  2. After the table has been created, use the RPLDCTWBT utility to update the word index definitions in the Progress/400 Dictionary Library.
  3. Running this utility rebuilds each word index using the new table’s rules from that Dictionary Library.
