Using the Progress AppServer
Examining the Progress AppServer Log File
When you investigate errors and troubleshoot code, examine the contents of the Progress AppServer log (specified using the
srvrLogFile
property inubroker.properties
). It can contain Progress system messages (informational, error, and warning) and output from 4GL MESSAGE statements that are not assigned an output destination by the OUTPUT TO KEEP-MESSAGES statement. For more information, see the OUTPUT TO statement entry in the Progress Language Reference .Also, you can choose to track and record procedure information using the
loggingLevel
property in theubroker.properties
file. This property tells an Application Server process to put procedure call trace messages into the Progress AppServer log file. Specifically, it issues a start message when a remote procedure begins and an end message when a remote procedure returns. Then, when you see a system message in the Progress AppServer log file, you can determine which procedure generated a specific message. You can specify three logging levels for the
loggingLevel
property:Level 1—Errors and Information
This includes all error messages and informational messages that are very infrequent. These include startup and shutdown messages that occur once during the life of the AppServer session.
Level 2—Terse (the Default)
This includes Level 1 plus information messages that occur very infrequently, but also indicate that the system is operating properly. These include AppServer registration events, client connection and disconnection events, and so on.
Level 3—Verbose
This includes Level 2 plus informational messages that occur more frequently and might help the client to debug their application. These include messages such client requests to the Application Broker, keep-alive messages from the broker, and logging of each remote procedure execution event.
For information on maintaining the AppServer log file, see Administration."
