Summary Of Version 3.1A Documentation Changes
This section describes the documents in the Version 3.0 documentation set that have been updated for Version 3.1A:
The following changes were made to this book:
- Chapter 2, “Introducing the AppBuilder and WebTools,” has been revised to include information about the new Editor, OS Command, and Virtual System Tables WebTools. It has also been reorganized to focus solely on the AppBuilder and WebTools.
- Chapter 3, “Setting Up the WebSpeed Development Environment,” is new. It describes how to make a working copy of the Sports2000 database, how to start a server for the database using Progress Explorer, how to connect the AppBuilder to the database, and how to connect the WebSpeed Development Server to the database using Progress Explorer.
- Chapter 4, “Sample WebSpeed Applications,” is new. It contains an overview of the sample WebSpeed applications and instructions on how to run them.
- Chapter 5, “Creating a WebSpeed Application,” is reorganized. It focuses on creating the SportsPro Sales Advisor application.
The primary change to this book was a reorganization of its chapters. The following summarizes the reorganization and updates made to this book:
- Chapter 1, “Introducing WebSpeed,” includes only introductory information.
- Chapter 2, “Overview of WebSpeed Tools,” includes only information about the tools and utilities used in WebSpeed application development. It was revised to include information about the new Editor, OS Command, and Virtual System Tables WebTools.
- Chapter 4, “Sample Web Objects,” focuses on describing the sample Web object code that is included with WebSpeed. It was revised to include a description of a new example,

, which shows how to use HTML Mapping with a SmartDataObject.- Chapter 5, “SpeedScript,” focuses on information about SpeedScript and Embedded SpeedScript.
- Chapter 8, “Controlling WebSpeed Transactions,” now contains all the information about Web object state.
- The “Building Applications” chapter was eliminated, but the information that it contained was moved to other chapters.
- User feedback indicated that many users were using WebSpeed on networks that had both Windows and UNIX systems. For convenience, the Windows and UNIX versions of this document have been combined into a single document.
- Material throughout the document has been rearranged to provide a clearer separation of the tasks involved in planning your installation, installing WebSpeed, and configuring WebSpeed.
- Chapters 1 through 4 give an overview of the WebSpeed architecture and discuss planning your WebSpeed installation. Chapter 3 describes several sample WebSpeed configurations.
- Chapters 5 and 6 discuss installing WebSpeed on Windows and UNIX systems.
- Chapters 7 through 10 discuss configuring and using your WebSpeed installation.
- Chapters 11 and 12 discuss issues involved in upgrading earlier versions of WebSpeed and whether coexistence is possible.
