AppServer Administration Framework
The management functions for the Progress AppServer are an integrated part of the Progress Explorer administration framework. Figure 3–1 shows an overview of this framework as it applies to AppServer administration.

Figure 3–1 shows the NameServer and AppServer components running on the same machine. You can also install the NameServer and AppServer on separate machines connected to the same network. In that case, a separate AdminServer and
ubroker.properties
file exist on each machine for access by the Progress Explorer. For more information on distributed AppServer configurations, see the Progress Installation and Configuration Guide Version 9 for Windows or the Progress Installation and Configuration Guide Version 9 for UNIX.
The core of the Progress Explorer administration framework is the AdminServer process, which resides on each machine where a Progress server product is installed. The AdminServer performs the actual configuration and management of these products within the Progress Explorer framework.
In addition to the AdminServer process, the AppServer administration framework consists of several supporting components as shown in Figure 3–1:
For more information on how AppServer clients, NameServers, Application Brokers, and Application Server processes work together, see Overview of the Progress AppServer." Administration of these components follows the general procedures outlined in this section using the Progress Explorer, the
ubroker.properties
file, and the supporting utilities. For an overview of this configuration procedure and detailed information on configuring NameServers, see the Progress Installation and Configuration Guide Version 9 for Windows or the Progress Installation and Configuration Guide Version 9 for UNIX.
