Progress
Version 9
Product Update Bulletin
Installation
This section summarizes changes to the Progress Version 9.1 Installation utility for the Windows and UNIX operating systems:
- The Progress Version 9.1 Electronic Documentation (EDOC) Installation utility now installs the DynaText 4.1 Viewer on Windows operating systems.
NOTE: Progress Version 9.1 installs these additional drivers only if you install the Enterprise DataServer for ODBC.- The Installation utility now installs MERANT ODBC drivers during the installation process for Windows operating systems. In addition to the Progress SQL-92 ODBC driver (which were installed with Progress Version 9.0B), Progress Version 9.1 installs new MERANT ODBC drivers to enable the Enterprise DataServer for ODBC to access a number of supported data sources.
- A new feature allows users to add components or subcomponents to existing Progress V9.1 and later installations without having to reinstall Progress.
- The Progress Installation utility now installs the Microsoft Management Console (MMC) on Windows operating systems if you are using one of the six language versions available with the Installation utility, and if you do not already have MMC 1.1 or later installed on your system. The Progress Explorer now operates as a snap-in component of the MMC. The Installation utility calls the Microsoft-supplied install program to install the MMC.
- The Progress Installation utility now installs Microsoft HTML Help Version 1.22 on Windows operating systems if you are using one of the six language versions available with the Installation utility, and if you do not already have Microsoft HTML Help Version 1.22 or later installed on your system. The Installation utility calls the Microsoft-supplied install program to install Microsoft HTML Help.
- The Progress Installation utility now installs Microsoft Java (MS JVM) Build 3177 or later if you do not already have MS JVM 3177 or later already installed on your system.
- Progress now provides a silent mode for the installation on UNIX platforms (this feature was already available on Windows platforms). You can use the batch install feature to launch the Progress installation from your own install utility, and Progress will be installed silently during your install. Batch install can be used only for Typical and Custom installations.
