Progress
Version 9
Product Update Bulletin
AppServer
The Progress AppServer includes the following changes:
- A new management interface. The Progress Explorer, the graphical configuration tool for local and remote system administration, has been redesigned as a snap-in to the Microsoft Management Console (MMC). The AppServer management component is also implemented as a plug-in to the Progress Explorer snap-in.
- Support for asynchronous requests from a 4GL client. In previous versions of Progress, all remote procedure calls are synchronous. That is, the 4GL client blocks until the remote procedure completes execution and returns control to the client. With new 4GL syntax, the client can call a remote procedure and continue execution without waiting for the remote procedure to return to the client. Instead, the client establishes an event procedure that executes and receives the results from the remote procedure whenever it completes execution on the AppServer.
- A new PRO*Tool, AppServer Information, allows you to view session information on a connected AppServer. For information, see the "PRO*Tools" section in this chapter.
