Synchronizing the Client

You use the Progress/400 Dictionary Synchronize utility to synchronize either the client schema holder and the Native 4GL Client Schema Image or just the client schema holder, so that it matches the information in the server schema on the AS/400. You can choose to perform either a full or a selective synchronization:

NOTE: When performing a selective synchronization, this utility does not check for or remove objects from the schema holder that are no longer present in the server schema. It also does not process changes to sequences. You must perform a full synchronization to include this activity.

Follow these steps to synchronize the client:

  1. Access the Progress/400 Data Dictionary.
  2. Choose Admin Synchronize. The following dialog box appears:
  3. Choose the Selective or Full radio button to perform a selective or a full synchronization.
  4. If you choose selective synchronization, the following dialog box appears:

This window displays the files that you can select for synchronization.

  5. If you chose the Selective button, choose the files to synchronize:
    • To select a file, use the up and down arrow keys in the Select Objects to process: pane to highlight a filename, then press the RETURN key or the Add >> button to select it. The file name moves to the Objects to be processed: pane. Repeat this process for each object to be synchronized.
    • To remove a selected object, use the up and down arrow keys in the Objects to be processed: pane to highlight the object name, then press the RETURN key or the << Remove button to remove it. The object name moves to the Select Objects to process: pane. Repeat the selection process for each object to be removed.
    • After your selection list is complete, choose OK.

  6. Choose to synchronize your client schema holder and/or your Native 4GL schema image.
  7. Choose Verify Server Schema to verify the physical file objects against the information in the server schema. If the utility finds any differences, it displays a report.
  8. Choose OK.
