Hardware and Networking Requirements

Table 1–1 lists the hardware and networking requirements for creating a WebSpeed configuration on your system. Depending on how you create your applications, you might have different requirements when you deploy your applications.

Component
Requirement
CD-ROM drive
You need CD-ROM drives that are compatible with each operating system on which you will install WebSpeed components.
VGA or higher resolution video adapter
Your video adapter should be running at 800x600 resolution. For the best visual effect, your system should support 256 colors. This is only necessary for machines on which you install the WebSpeed Workshop, ProVision Plus, or the Progress Explorer.
Network access
Your system must have access to an Intranet or the Internet.
Network protocol
Your system must support the TCP/IP and UDP protocols. The platforms currently supported by WebSpeed provide built-in TCP/IP and UDP support.
Web server
Your Web server must support one of the following interfaces:
  • ISAPI—For example, Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS), Versions 3.x, 4.x, or 5.x
  • NSAPI—For example, iPlanet Enterprise or Fast Track Server, Version 3.x or 4.0x
  • CGI 1.1—For example, Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS), Versions 3.x, 4.x, or 5.x; Apache; iPlanet Enterprise or Fast Track Server, Version 3.x, 4.x, or 6.x.
Web browser
To use the new browser-based editor, you need one of the following Web browsers to run the WebSpeed Workshop:
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer, Version 5.0 or later.
    The version of Internet Explorer you are using must support JScript Version 2.0.
  • Netscape Navigator, Version 4.5 or later.
