Version 9
Product Update Bulletin
Open Client
The Progress Open Client Toolkit includes the following changes:
- Updated system and software requirements. These include more bundled third-party software that you do not have to install outside of the Open Client Toolkit. Also, separate Type Library files have been eliminated. ProxyGen now stores all proxy Type Library information in the single dynamic link library generated for the proxy.
- An alternate InputResultSet class that you can use in both Java 1.1 and Java 1.2 applications.
- Support for access from Java Open Clients to remote SmartDataObjects as JDBC 2 ResultSet objects. This allows you to access Progress SmartDataObjects running on the AppServer using standard JDBC methods and additional extensions to handle the unique features of SmartDataObjects.
- A new ProxyGen graphical user interface (GUI). The ProxyGen GUI is completely rewritten using the Windows Foundation Classes (WFC), providing a look and feel that is more consistent with the Windows environment.
- File association support for ProxyGen project files. This allows you to automatically start up ProxyGen by opening a project (
.pxg
) file from the Windows Explorer (or other file browser). ProxyGen then automatically opens the project associated with the opened file.- Batch ProxyGen support on UNIX. This includes the same Batch ProxyGen support available on Windows platforms to generate Java proxies. (You cannot generate ActiveX proxies on UNIX.)
- A new utility for changing the PROPATH settings of a generated proxy project on non-Windows operating systems, like UNIX.
