Performing a Custom Installation
Perform a Custom installation when you want to install individual Progress product components and subcomponents. Choosing a Custom installation allows you to install only the mandatory components required for each Progress product in order to help you work around possible disk space limitations.
Follow these steps to perform a Custom installation:
- Follow the steps in the "Installing Progress On Your System" section.
- In the Setup Type dialog box, choose Custom, then choose Next to continue with the installation. The Products List dialog box appears:

- Select the product whose components and subcomponents you want to install.
- Choose Component to view a list of product components. The Components List dialog box appears:

Some of the Progress components are marked as mandatory. You must include these components in your Progress installation, though not necessarily on the machine you are currently setting up. You can ignore the warning messages about installing mandatory components only if you are an experienced Progress user.
CAUTION: If you previously installed the required version of the JavaSoft (InstallShield) JDK on your system and want Progress to use this utility, you should contact Progress Software Technical Support for assistance.- Select the components for a Custom installation. If you intend to use the Shared Network Installation option, be sure to choose to install the NetSetup component.
- To select a component’s subcomponents, highlight the component in the list and choose Change. The Select Sub-components dialog box appears.
Some of the Progress subcomponents are marked as mandatory. You must include these subcomponents in your Progress installation, though not necessarily on the machine you are currently setting up. You can ignore the warning messages about installing mandatory subcomponents only if you are an experienced Progress user.
- Select the subcomponents that you want to install, and choose Continue. The Components List dialog box reappears. You can install additional subcomponents for any component listed. Choose Next when you are done. The Products List dialog box reappears.
- You can choose components or subcomponents for another product, or you can choose Next. When you select Next, the Select Program Folder dialog box appears:

- Accept the default Program Folder, type the name of a new Progress Program Folder, or select an existing folder. If you have an existing Progress installation, make sure that the Program Folder name you type here is not the same one that contains the installed product.
- Choose Next to continue.
If you are installing the WebSpeed components of ProVision Plus, the Web Server Type dialog box appears:

- Select the Web server you will use to install Messengers. For more information on WebSpeed components and Web servers, see the “Installing WebSpeed” chapter of the WebSpeed Installation and Configuration Guide .
- Choose Next. The Language Choice dialog box appears.
- Select the default language and any other languages you want to install. Progress can use these languages for run-time messages. The initial value for default language is determined by the operating system on which you are installing Progress. However, you can set the result to any of the provided languages.
- Choose Next. The International Settings dialog box appears:

The International Settings dialog box allows the installation program to tailor your Progress startup parameter (
startup.pf
) file to specify international conventions. (For more information on international conventions, see the Progress Internationalization Guide .)- From each drop-down list, select the International Character Set, Collation, and Case; Date Format; and Number Format to tailor the default Progress
startup.pf
file.- Follow Step 9 through Step c in the "Performing a Typical Or Complete Installation" section if you are installing any Progress products that use the AdminServer and you want to set up the optional AdminServer User-Group Security Authorization feature.
- Choose Next to continue the setup program. The Summary dialog box appears, displaying a summary of the installation options you have selected.
- Choose Next. The setup program installs the Progress files and the Custom Setup Done screen appears.
- Choose Finish.
- Reboot your machine if prompted to do so.
