Starting Single-user Progress In Batch Or Background Mode
Follow these steps to create a task that can be started as a single-user Progress in batch or background mode by using the ProControl utility:
- Access the ProControl utility and start ProService (if it is not already started).
See the "Starting ProService" section earlier in this appendix for information on how to do this.
- From the ProControl Main Window, choose Detail, then choose the OtherTasks folder.
- From the OtherTasks folder, choose Insert. ProControl displays the OtherTasks General folder:

- Enter information for the following boxes:
- Identifiers — Provides a unique name to identify the task. The name must be unique to the Windows NT host. The Identifier can be up to 30 characters long. For example, you might name a single-user batch session

. Once you have defined the task, ProControl inserts this name in the selection list. Note that this is the Identifier that you supply when using PCCmd.- Executable Name — To start a single-user batch session, the executable name is:
- Working Directory — Specifies the directory that the batch session uses.
- Browse — Specifies the executable file and working directory to run.
- Startup Parameters — Specifies the Progress startup parameters that you want to use. To start a batch session in single-user mode, you must supply the -

, the -p
, and the -1
startup parameters and can optionally include the database name:
- Choose OK. ProControl displays the OtherTasks folder:

- Select the task that you want to start from the OtherTasks selection list and choose Start.
You can specify that this task start automatically by selecting AutoStart in the OtherTasks General folder. Once you have created this task entry, you can use PCCmd to start it.
