Progress
Installation and Configuration Guide
Version 9
for Windows
Other Considerations Before You Begin the Progress Installation
Review the following additional points before you attempt to install Progress 9.1E:
- You must have administrative privileges on the machine on which you are installing Progress. For more information, see your Windows documentation.
- You can install Progress products in any order.
- During the install of Progress Version 9.1E with products that use the AdminServer, you will be presented an option to set user and/or group AdminServer security. Set this option to require an individual user and/or groups of users to provide valid values during the AdminServer startup process. The products that use the AdminServer are the AppServer, WebSpeed, Sonic MQ Adapter, and the Progress Explorer.
To effectively set up this security option for your AdminServer use, review your security needs and current authenticated operating system users and groups to determine how you will set up this option during the Progress Version 9.1E installation process.
- If you are installing Version 9 and you have an existing Progress installation, you must perform some additional steps before you begin the Version 9 installation. See the "Performing Preinstallation Tasks" section.
Shared Network Installation Utility
You can provide multiple-client access to a single copy of Progress that is preinstalled on a network-accessible drive (server). If you want to do this, you must choose either a Complete installation (in which the Shared Network Installation component is automatically installed) or a Custom installation (which allows you to choose to install the Shared Network Installation component).
For more information about sharing a Progress installation between a server and clients, see Sharing a Progress Installation On a Network."
NOTE: Citrix MetaFrame does not support the shared network installation.
