Modifying a Table

The Progress/400 Data Dictionary allows you to modify DB2/400 database files, except for files with multiple members.

CAUTION: The DataServer changes the definition of the physical file with the new information. Any DDS definitions in the physical file that are not supported by the DataServer will be lost.

The Progress/400 Data Dictionary preserves DB2/400 file attributes with the exceptions of those described in Table 9–2.

Follow these steps to modify a table:

  1. Choose the Table mode button in the Progress/400 Data Dictionary main window.
  2. Choose Modify schema.
  3. Select a table from the Tables list.
  4. Choose the Table Properties button. The following dialog box appears:
  5. Modify the fields to change the definitions for the DB2/400 file. Choose the Help button to access detailed information on all of the elements in the dialog box.
  6. Choose OK to return to the Progress/400 Data Dictionary.
  7. You modified the data definitions in the server schema on the AS/400. Your server schema now contains definitions that are not reflected in the client schema holder until you synchronize it.
