DataServers
Version 9.1A includes enhancements to the following DataServers:
Progress Enterprise DataServer For ODBC
The Enterprise DataServer for ODBC has the following modifications and enhancements:
- The Enterprise DataServer for ODBC server is no longer supported on UNIX. When installed on Microsoft Windows NT, the Enterprise DataServer for ODBC server can connect to a data source residing on a UNIX server. Progress clients running on UNIX can connect to the Enterprise DataServer for ODBC server through Progress networking.
- This DataServer product now includes Version 3.5 of the MERANT ODBC drivers for all the supported ODBC data sources. For the personal DataServer for ODBC, these drivers must be purchased from the vendor. For information about these drivers, see the PDF file
installation-path\odbc\ODBCREF.PDF
.- The Progress Explorer tool for local and remote system administration of this DataServer product has been redesigned as a snap-in to the Microsoft Management Console (MMC).
- For MS SQL Server and Sybase data sources, the ProtoODB utility allows creation of extended 4GL objects by default.
- The DataServer (–Dsrv) startup parameter has a new option, skip_schema_check, that can increase performance of your applications. Specifying this option causes the DataServer to ship schema verification of the tables the application is accessing.
- The implementation of Dynamic Queries requires recompiling of all existing applications.

The DataServer for ORACLE has the following enhancements:
- The Progress Explorer tool for local and remote system administration of this DataServer product has been redesigned as a snap-in to the Microsoft Management Console (MMC).
- In Progress Version 9.1, a single set of executables is used to access the supported versions of ORACLE (7.3 or later).
