Naming Multiple Servers

Progress/400 supports running multiple AdminServers, NameServer, and AppServer instances on a single machine. To do this you must make each unique, as the "Naming Conventions" section in this chapter documents.

AdminServer Port Number

The Progress/400 AdminServer has a listening port for remote clients. Progress/400 assigns a default value of 20931 to this port. If you choose to have multiple Progress/400 AdminServers, you must give each a unique port number to using the Change Progress/400 Defaults utility (CHGPRODFT). For more information on the CHGPRODFT command, see AS/400 Utilities."

NameServer Name and Port Number

The Progress/400 NameServer has a name and a listening port for remote clients. Progress/400 assigns this NameServer a default name of NS1 and gives it a default port value of 5162. If you choose to have multiple Progress/400 NameServers, you must give each a unique name and port number by editing your ubroker.properties file.

AppServer Broker Name and Port Number

The Progress/400 AppServer Broker has a name and a listening port for remote clients. Progress/400 assigns this broker a default name of ASBROKER1 and gives it a default port value of 3050. If you choose to have multiple Progress/400 AppServer instances, you must give the AppServer Broker for each instance a unique name and port by editing your ubroker.properties file.

AppServer Instance Port Number

The Progress/400 AppServer has a listening port for remote clients. Progress/400 assigns a default port value of 2000 to the first Progress/400 AppServer instance. If another AppServer instance starts, Progress/400 automatically creates a unique and sequential port value. You can change the port value for the Progress/400 AppServer instance by editing your ubroker.properties file.
