Adjusting the SQL Width Property Setting
The SQL Field Width property allows the 4GL client to modify the field width so that the SQL-92 client will have the proper size to work with. If you do not adjust the setting, the SQL-92 client uses the default width property.
To adjust the field width in GUI mode, make sure you are connected to a database and then follow these steps:
- From the Windows Desktop, choose Start

Data Dictionary. The Data Dictionary appears.
- Select a table.
- Choose Options

Adjust Field Width from the menu bar. Progress displays the Adjust Field Width dialog box.
- Select the name of the field whose width you want to adjust, click its width setting, and make the adjustment.
- Repeat Step 4 for any other fields.
- Choose Save, and then choose OK.
To adjust the field width in character mode, make sure you are connected to a database and follow these steps:
- Access the Data Dictionary.
- Choose Schema
SQL Properties. A table name appears in the Table Name field, which is followed by a list of additional table names.
- Choose the table you want; the name automatically appears in the Table Name field.
- Press ENTER to open the table. The width of the first field in the field name listing is highlighted.
- Select the name of the field whose width you want to adjust, click its width setting, and make the adjustment.
- Repeat Step 5 for any other fields.
- Choose Save, then press ENTER.
- Press F4, then choose Apply Changes.
