Progress/400
Product Guide
Code Pages and Collation Support
The AS/400 provides different character encoding and database record sorting functionality than on most other Progress environments:
- The AS/400 encodes characters using EBCDIC, while most other Progress environments use ASCII character encoding.
- On the AS/400, the sorting of database records is controlled primarily by alternate collating sequence tables, while in other Progress environments, it is controlled by the CONVMAP collation table.
The Progress/400 product provides special code page and data translation support that allows you to make database record sorting on a Progress/400 database operate in the same way as on a Progress database.
If you have experienced sorting problems when running your application, this section provides information that is important to you:
NOTE: The discussion in this section assumes that your client is running on Windows; however, the information generally is the same for a client running on UNIX.
