WebSpeed
Developer’s Guide
Preliminary Requirements for Running the WebSpeed AppBuilder
Before you can use the WebSpeed AppBuilder to develop Web objects, the following must be running and accessible:
- The AdminServer, which provides support for configuration utilities and grants access to each instance of an installed Progress product. By default, on Windows NT systems, the AdminServer starts automatically and runs as an NT service.
- The NameServer, which manages a pool of brokers including the WebSpeed Broker. The NameServer helps to direct client requests to the correct broker. By default, it starts when the AdminServer starts.
- A Database Server, which manages a connection between the AppBuilder and the database. In addition, the database server manages a connection between the WebSpeed Broker and the database.
- A WebSpeed Broker, which manages the WebSpeed Agents that execute Web objects. The WebSpeed Broker must be connected to the database server when it starts.
- A Web Server, which manages Web requests and returns Web pages to the browser. The Web server must have the WebSpeed Messenger installed in its
\scripts
directory.See "WebSpeed Architecture," for a description of how these servers and brokers work together to execute a Web object.
