Modifying a Field
The Progress/400 Data Dictionary allows you to modify fields in DB2/400 database files. The DataServer takes the definitions you provide and adds them to the physical file on the AS/400.
NOTE: You can change all of the attributes of a field in the Field Properties dialog box but only before you commit the file. Once you commit it, the Progress/400 Data Dictionary restricts what attributes you can change.CAUTION: Any DDS definitions for the field that are not supported by the DataServer will be lost.Follow these steps to modify a field:
- From the Progress/400 Data Dictionary main window, choose the Fields mode button. The Fields list appears.
- Select a table from the Tables list.
- Select a field from the Fields list.
- Choose the Field Properties button. The following dialog box appears:
NOTE: You can override field-level validation expressions in your application by including the appropriate Progress 4GL statement.- Modify the fields to change the definitions for the DB2/400 file. Choose the Help button to access detailed information on all of the elements in the dialog box.
- Choose OK or Save. If you choose Save, use the navigation buttons to view more fields in the Field property panel.
You modified the data definitions in the server schema on the AS/400. Your server schema now contains definitions that are not reflected in the client schema holder until you synchronize it.
